Joe Borgia

BJJ Rank: Purple Belt
Years Training: 5+
Classes Taught: Takedowns for Jiu Jitsu
Joe first started training Jiu Jitsu out of pure curiosity. He was just beginning a new career in carpentry and felt drawn to the idea of learning a trade and a martial art at the same time—two very different skill sets that both reward dedication, patience, and hands-on experience.
Today, Joe teaches takedowns for Jiu Jitsu, bringing a grounded, technical approach shaped by his time on the job site and the mat. His favorite areas to explore are half guard and stand-up grappling, especially where the two connect.
He’s passionate about teaching because he knows how transformative a good teacher can be.
“I remember how cool it felt to finally understand something that once felt intimidating or foreign. I want to pass that feeling along to others—both in Jiu Jitsu and in carpentry.”
Joe’s ideal student is simple: someone who’s eager and willing to learn.
For him, JJC is more than just a gym—it’s a place that feels welcoming from the moment you walk in.
“The energy on the mat is what makes it special. I’ve seen class sizes double since I started here, and that’s a true reflection of the work Josh and Angie have put in.”
