Women on the mats

A real, consistent women's contingent every week.

Train in the regular room. Partner with whoever fits.

HOW IT WORKS

We don't separate our women's program from our main program — they're the same program, with the option to choose your training partners. You'll almost never walk into a class without other women on the mat.

Choose your training partners

O1

Want to drill or roll with another woman? Tell a coach or ask a teammate — it's always available, never awkward. Most women at JJC partner with men some of the time and women some of the time. Your training, your pace.

A real women's contingent in Fundamentals

02

Right now we have a strong, steady group of women training together in our Fundamentals classes. If you're starting out, you'll be surrounded by other women working the same material.

High-level partners across belts

03

Four female black belts train here consistently, plus a deep bench of brown, purple, and blue belts. When you're ready, the partners are here.

WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP

Real seats at the table.

Angie Vogel is a 2nd-degree BJJ black belt, co-founder of JJC, and one of the head coaches teaching adult classes. Women coach across multiple programs at the academy. Coaching rosters change over time — but representation in the rooms shaping this academy doesn't.

What that means in practice: when women walk into JJC, the people running the academy and the curriculum include women. Not as figureheads — as decision-makers. That changes the room from day one.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The honest questions we get asked.

Will I be the only woman in class?

Almost certainly not. With 27% female membership and a strong contingent of women currently in Fundamentals, most adult classes have multiple women on the mat. If you ever walk into one where the numbers feel thin, ask a coach to pair you with one of our female black belts.

Do I have to roll with men?

No — never. You can always request to partner with another woman or with a coach. Most women end up rolling with both men and women once they feel comfortable, but it's never required. Your training, your pace.

I'm a complete beginner. Where do I start?

Fundamentals. We currently have a strong group of women training together in that program, so you'll be in good company. The curriculum is built specifically for first-day beginners — no athletic background required.

Are men in classes respectful?

Yes — and we hold the standard. Our culture is explicit: training partners are partners, not opponents. We've built this academy intentionally over years. Ego or disrespectful behavior gets addressed immediately. That isn't a marketing promise — it's a non-negotiable.

What if I want to compete?

We coach women competitors all the way through. Several of our female students compete actively in IBJJF, And local tournaments. The competition pipeline is wide open if you want it — and equally optional if you don't.

READY TO TRY?

Come train. See if it's a good fit.

No pressure, no hard sell. Just one week to get a feel for the space, the coaches, the art.
