If you're visiting Philadelphia and looking for a place to train, we'd love to have you on the mats at The Jiu Jitsu Company.
Whether you're in town exploring the historic district, traveling for work, or just passing through, we welcome respectful visitors from all academies and affiliations.
Our academy is located just minutes from Old City, Independence Hall, and the historic birthplace of the United States — making it easy to fit training into your Philadelphia itinerary.

Day Pass: $20

Your drop-in includes access to any scheduled class that day as well as open mat.

We regularly host visitors from across the country and around the world, and we aim to make training both welcoming and high quality.

Uniform Requirements

Gi classes

Any clean Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gi is welcome
No offensive patches or logos
Appropriate Belt required
Shirt or rashguard under gi required.

NoGi classes

Rash guard and grappling shorts required
No pockets or zippers on shorts
Spats optional

If you forgot gear, we have a full stocked pro shop in the lobby.

JJC Etiquette

Our academy culture is important to us. Visitors are expected to follow a few simple guidelines:

Say hi! Our academy is filled with friendly grapplers, you'll be part of our team for the day!
Maintain good hygiene (clean gear, trimmed nails)
Respect the tap — yours and your partner’s
Match your partner’s intensity when rolling
Be friendly and helpful to beginners

We believe jiu jitsu should be challenging, technical, and welcoming.

Elfreth’s Alley

Just a short walk from our academy, Elfreth’s Alley is the oldest continuously inhabited residential street in the United States, dating back to 1703. The narrow cobblestone lane and preserved colonial homes offer a glimpse into early Philadelphia life. It’s one of the most photographed streets in the city and a quick, charming stop while exploring the historic district.

Independence Hall

Only minutes away on Chestnut Street, Independence Hall is where both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were debated and signed. This UNESCO World Heritage Site sits in the center of Independence National Historical Park and is considered the birthplace of American democracy. It’s one of the most important historic landmarks in Philadelphia.

Penn’s Landing

Along the Delaware River waterfront, Penn’s Landing offers scenic river views, walking paths, and seasonal events throughout the year. It’s a great place to relax after training, catch sunset views over the river, or explore nearby attractions along Columbus Boulevard and the waterfront parks.

Betsy Ross House

Located in the heart of Old City Philadelphia, the Betsy Ross House celebrates the life of the woman traditionally credited with sewing the first American flag. Visitors can explore the restored colonial home, learn about Revolutionary-era Philadelphia, and see demonstrations of traditional 18th-century crafts.

Located right in the Old City neighborhood near Market Street, it’s the perfect stop before morning training or for a relaxed coffee break while exploring historic Philadelphia. If training works up your appetite, Lil Susie’s Pies is one of our favorite post-roll treats. This small neighborhood bakery is known for homemade fruit pies, seasonal flavors, and flaky crusts that feel like they came straight out of a classic American kitchen. Many of our students consider this the official post-training dessert stop.
